John Conomos Captures First WSOP Circuit Ring After Dominating the PLO Event!

Day 2 of the WSOPC $550 Pot Limit Omaha event started with 21 players hoping to make it to the end and capture their first circuit ring. Ultimately it would be John Conomos who started the day as chip leader and was able to navigate his way through just four hours of play and take down the title.

This is Conomos' best result in a live PLO tournament after saying he usually busted from them around the bubble. Predominantly a cash game player, Conomos still had to maneuver through a tough field. Along the way, some notables fell including Brett Trevillian (21st), defending champion Christine Hia (17th) and Travis O'Grady (11th) before a final table was reached.

The final table housed some big names including Mikhael Larrson and Ash Gupta. Larrson has seen success in this tournament already this series, finishing 17th in both the $1,800 6 Max PLO as well as the $550 Mixed PLO/NLH before finishing in 5th place today. Gupta is no stranger to tournament's amassing over $600,000  in career earnings. Today he would fall one place short finishing in second place.

Heads up between Conomos and Gupta lasted an hour before the final hand occurred. The board showed 5-spade.gif9-heart.gif5-club.gif8-heart.gif and Gupta moved all in, matched by Conomos who had him covered. Gupta held 8-spade.gif5-diamond.gif4-heart.gif2-spade.gif for trip fives but was drawing dead to Conomos who held ace-club.gifq-spade.gif9-diamond.gif9-club.gif for a full house.

Conomos would collect just over $27,000 for his efforts which would trump his previous best score of $9,900 where he finished in 2nd in a $550 Deepstack last year!
