Sydney Championships Main Event Day 3

Nebojsa Blanusa is the 2018 Sydney Championships Main Event Champion - $314,265
Posted Mon, 06 Aug 2018 10:40pm
They say poker is a game of changing gears and we have not seen a greater example of somebody doing that then we did today from Nebojsa Blanusa in the Sydney Championships Main Event.
He started the day near the bottom of the chip counts and stayed there all the way through to the final table. On the final table again, Blanusa played a game of patience. We actually had very little to report on Blanusa and when we did refer to him we did so as the quiet type, assuming he was happy to just ladder jump his way through the prize pool.
With that in mind, when we got to heads-up play, we thought this would end quite quickly, with Lam taking his chip advantage to run over the top of Blanus, how wrong we were.
Whilst there was certainly some luck in the first two double ups which brought Blanusa back to even, that's poker and an important part of the game is making most of the opportunities that are given to you. When they were back to even however, Blanusa turned into a completely different person and stamped his authority on this event.
Blanusa completely steamrolled Lam when heads up and chipped away at his stack relentlessly. It became only a matter of time before Blanusa would land the killer blow and take down the title to be crowned the 2018 Sydney Champion.
Ironically, whilst Blanusa was ferocious in heads-up play, it was Lam who would completely annihilate the rest of the final table. Lam was a single-handed wrecking ball wreaking havoc on anyone who got in his way. The Kiwi based Lam eliminated most of the players in the final table and built a commanding chip lead, in fact with 6 players left he nearly had half of the chips in play. Brian Lam played a phenomenal tournament and it will not be too long before we see him go one step further and take down a major title.
A special mention must also go out to Suzy Khoueis, the matriarch of the Star Poker Room. Khoueis finished 6th in this event last year and went one better this year with a 5th place. A nice treat considering today was her 50th birthday. It seems every time we are reporting in Sydney, Suzy Khoueis is in the pointy end of the competition, as her game continues to grow and evolve we will definitely be seeing her lifting a Main Event trophy sometime in the very near future.
But not today, today the man of the moment is Nebojsa Blanusa, the champion of the 2018 Sydney Championships Main Event!

A little about Brian
Posted Mon, 06 Aug 2018 8:49pm
Brian Lam is from New Zealand, that means literally nobody in the room (with the exception of Kiwi High Roller Champ, Sosia Jiang) wants him to win.
However, he sits with a massive chip advantage at the moment which is going to make him very difficult to overcome.
Lam is looking to get the biggest cash in his career by far today. Prior to this, his biggest cash was in the 2015 March Poker Classic in Auckland where he picked up NZ$20,600 (that's approximate AU$3.80).
Lam has played a great game today and has been responsible for most of our final table eliminations. Just one more elimination stands between him and the Sydney Championships Main Event Title!
A Little about Nebosja
Posted Mon, 06 Aug 2018 8:44pm
Although he hails from Adelaide, Nebojsa Blanusa is no stranger to the Star Poker Room.
In fact, he had the best cash of his career in this room back in December last year when he won the WSOP Sydney Omaha event. He picked up $31,677 for that and will get a score of approximately 10 times that if he can turn around the massive chip deficit he is facing and take down the title!
Wolf in Lam clothing
Posted Mon, 06 Aug 2018 8:34pm
Brian Lam has just knocked one of the legs of Nebojsa Blanusa on a huge hand that just went down!
Blanusa raised to 260,000 and was 3-bet by Lam to 900,000.
Both players checked the flop and when the hit the turn, things got real!
Lam bet out 800,000 only to be raised to 2,000,000 by Blanusa. Lam thought long and hard before making the call.
Both players checked the river and Lam turned over for a King high flush. Nebosja Blanusa could not beat that and is now down to 3,000,000 while Brian Lam is in complete control with 12,000,000

Happy Birthday Suzy!
Posted Mon, 06 Aug 2018 8:03pm
Today will be memorable for Suzy for many reasons. Not only did she finish 5th in the Sydney Championships Main Event, picking up the biggest cash of her career but she did it on her birthday!
Today is a milestone birthday for Suzy, we would never divulge her age as that is not a gentlemanly thing to do (but if you look at the cake you might work it out). Such is the love that the Sydney Poker Community has for Suzy that a cake was organised for her so she could celebrate here in the Star Poker Room.
The number of friends Suzy has on the Sydney poker scene is countless, this is in part due to the sheer size of her family but more importantly due to her great warm nature, fun attitude and fearless play at the poker table.
The entire Star Poker Live Reporting Team, as well as the staff here in the Star Poker Room, would like to wish Suzy a very happy and memorable birthday. We look forward to seeing more of you for a long time to come and look forward to watching you next deep tournament run!
Happy Birthday Suzy!

It's coming home
Posted Mon, 06 Aug 2018 5:54pm
With five players remaining in this Sydney Championship, we have just learned an extremely worrisome piece of information.
Just one of the players left to fight for the title of Sydney Champion is from Sydney. The rest are all invaders from abroad.
Left at the table we have two Kiwis, Charlie Hawes and Brian Lam, Dhiya Majeed from Melbourne and Nebojsa Blanusa from Adelaide.
Basically, the hopes of the entire city rest on Suzy Khouies the Star Poker Room regular. Come on Suzy, let's bring this home!
Everybody - "It's coming home, It's coming home..."
Michael Levy Eliminated in 6th Place - $60,364

The short stack on the table has just been eliminated by the quietest man on the table, Nebojsa Blanusa.
Levy moved all in from the cutoff and Blanusa on the button immediately sprung to life, also moving all in! The action folded through the blinds and the cards were on their backs.

Sam Capra is here today cheering on two of his #TeamCoogee teammates, Michel Bouskila and Michael Levy who are both representing the surfside club on the final table.
It has all gotten a little too much for Capra, the great team from Best Hands Massage came by to see if any of the final table players needed a massage. They didn't get a chance though, as Capra grabbed their services before they could even make it here!
As someone who has had one of their massages before I can completely understand where Sam is coming from. If you have never tried a Best Hand Massage befre then we strongly recommend you give them a go! You will not regret it.
