Suzy Khoueis Champion Photo

Suzy Khoueis wins The Star Poker Festival 2017 Ladies Event!

NewsPosted 05-03-2017

Suzy Khoueis has outlasted a field of 71 talented ladies to become our champion.

Khoueis outplayed everyone. She was the dominant player from start to finish in this tournament and was a deserved winner.

It was around 4am when Khoueis was crowned champion, almost 12 hours after the Ladies Event started.

What makes this even more amazing is that Khoueis started the day playing Day 2 of the opening event at 12:30pm. She cashed in that tournament and busted out at 4:30pm when the ladies tournament started, entered immediately and got straight down to business.

Cashing in two tournaments in one day is a pretty big feat for an online player, let alone a live one.

What makes this even more impressive is that Khoueis has now won the past two ladies events at the Star consecutively. She outlasted a field of 168 there and a field of 71 today. Not to mention that fact that in between that she made the final table of the WSOP Sydney.

Khoueis has definitely hit a purple patch of form of late and is looking to build on this. She currently has over $250,000 in earnings and who knows what the limit is if she continues in this fashion.

Her heads up opponent, Ashleigh Quach was no slouch either. Quach played a tough heads up game and at one point looked like she might even gain the chip lead, sadly it wasn't to be but still it was a good effort and we will see more from her in the futue.

Others two expect big things from in the future are Kahlia Thompson and Jenny Bernard who finished 3rd and 4th respectively. Thompson played a great game much to the joy of her adoring fans on the rail. Bernard flew down from Brisbane especially for this event and with her aggressive and tenacious style of play we will look forward to seeing her at the Sydney Championships in July and at the WSOP in Sydney too.

Rounding out the cash places were Mele Poulivaati, Isabelle Ho, our horse from the start of the tournament Julie Walters and the delightful Emily Zaiter.

One thing to point out that was obvious during this event was the spirit in which it played. All the ladies seemed to be having a good time from the word go and really got into the spirit of the competition. Not only was this a great opportunity to play poker but also to develop or begin some friendships with other ladies with similar interests. It was refreshing to see just how much fun everyone was having.

The 2017 Star Poker Festival Ladies Event is now in the books, it has shown us just how strong the ladies fields are getting in Australia at the moment and we look forward to seeing all of the entrants in many more events.
