Jarrod Thatcher winner fixed

Occasionally you will see something in poker and think to yourself that you will never see anything like this ever again. Tonight was one of those nights.

To say that our champion Jarrod Thatcher completely and utterly dominated this tournament would be a massive understatement. Thatcher came into our final table as chip leader and within 25 minutes they had all been eliminated leaving himself as the last man standing and earning a WSOP Circuit Gold Ring and $35,516 in the process.

This win caps off a great six months for Thatcher. He won the Melbourne Championships Opening Event in August for a $101,610 payday and his game has gone from strength to strength.

"I have spent a lot of time working on my game," Thatcher told the Star Poker Live Reporting Team when asked about his recent surge in performance. "I have a good friend that I work with a lot and discuss certain hands and situations that I would like to improve. That helps a lot."

However, to Thatcher the reason for his amazing success tonight is much simpler.

"I'm just on a massive heater and running really well."

You need to run well if you want to go deep in a Turbo Event. 20-minute blind levels with the blinds escalating quickly. You need to make something happen quickly. Especially in a massive field like we had here today. 343 entrants took part in this event giving us a prize pool almost 10% bigger than the same event last year. In this event last year Sam Capra fell agonisingly short finishing in second place. He has over $500,000 in tournament earnings and was looking to go one better this year but unfortunately was bundled out in 5th place.

Capra wasn't the only Tournament Series specialist to make a deep run in this event. Luis Arrilucea has almost $300,000 in cashes including a host of final tables here in the Star Poker Room. He held a commanding chip stack early but buckled when it mattered most. George Psarras also had a deep run on the hunt for his second ring and the same goes for Stan Levitan who was won almost every single poker tournament held in the Star Poker Room over the past month. He got down to the second last table and came close to nearly pulling off an unbelievable coup.

But the evening belonged to Thatcher. He was personally responsible for eliminating five of his eight final table mates. He now turns his focus to adding some more jewellry to his collection over the rest of the WSOP Sydney in the Star Poker Room.

"I will definitely play the 6 Max and the Main Event," Thatcher told us. "I hope not to play the Monster Event as it is on the last day of the Main Event and I hope to still be in."

Well, Jarrod, from what we have seen today you can probably make the Main Event final table, bust everyone out in 25 minutes and still have plenty of time to play the Monster Event!

Either way this turbo event performance will go down as one of the most comprehensive tournament wins in the history of the magnificent Star Poker Room.
