WSOP High Rollers Event(Re-Entry)

Andy Lee leads the field into Day
Posted Thu, 14 Dec 2017 1:00am
After nearly 10 hours of play, the WSOP Sydney High Rollers Day 1 has come to a close. This is the second time a $20,000 event has been run in The Star Poker Room and it is proving again to be a favourite amongst high stakes players. A great showing turned out today including local Sydney players, Victorians and players from regions as far-flung as Germany and Lithuania but after all was said and done, it's Sydney boy Andy Lee who will lead the way into Day 2.
Lee was always going to be a threat throughout today's tournament but managed to fly under the radar for the first 9 levels. We're not sure what triggered him, but Lee opened the flood gates and he started eliminating players left right and centre. He catapulted to the chip lead after eliminating both Malaysian Christopher Soyza and Lithuanian Dominykas Karmazinas in the same hand. This kind of success should be no surprise to anyone who has ever followed Andy Lee. Lee has enjoyed huge tournament successes this year totalling over $300,000 including success in the first $20,000 High Roller at this year's Sydney Champs, placing second for a staggering $148,200 and he will be looking to do one better this time around.
In a field this talented, it's increasingly difficult to pick out the strongest players but three players we highly recommend keeping an eye on are Brendon Rubie, German pro Martin Finger and Tolly Sakellariou. Brendon Rubie is having an incredible run at WSOP Sydney after winning the $5K and finishing as chip leader in his Main Event flight, he is definitely not someone to take lightly. Martin Finger brings a wealth of international experience with him and is fresh from a Main Event win at the Marconi Club just last month. Tolly Sakellariou won his seat at last night's $1,100 satellite but is proving that he is definitely no slouch. Tolly was the chip leader for a large portion of today's play, right up until Andy Lee came from behind and never let anyone else infront. Tolly's tournament earnings are dwarfed by his many of his rivals but he is crowd favourite for a deep run on the final table.
There were a total of 32 buy-ins today that included a number of re-entries from the usual suspects, amassing a total prize pool of $608,000 - Not a small amount to be shared between only four people!
When the 9 players return tomorrow for they will be vying for the $273,600 top prize and of course the WSOP Circuit Ring that goes with it.
Seating draw and chip counts for tomorrow's 2.15PM Day 2:

Welcome to the 2017 WSOP Sydney high rollers
Posted Wed, 13 Dec 2017 2:17pm
The High Rollers Event here at WSOP Sydney is one of the great jewels in this series crown. With a buy-in of $20,000, we can expect the best of the best of the Australian Poker World to turn out today. This is only the second time an event of such a high buy-in has been run at The Star Poker Room and after a great result earlier this year at Sydney Champs where Warick Mirzikinian took the top spot, we can expect a great showing tonight.
As players filter into the room, there is a mixture of seasoned professionals and some keen-eyed satellite winners all vying for the top prize. Last night's five satellite winners include:
- Tolly Sakellariou
- Carlos Youssef
- Martin Finger
- Christopher Soyza
- Dominykas Karmazinas
However, the ultimate King of Value is none other than Grant Levy himself. After besting a field of exactly 100 runners to win the $225 satellite into this event, he has the potential for some serious return on investment here.
Players will each begin with 50,000 in chips and the blinds will be in 45-minute increments for Day 1 and 60-minute increments for Day 2. Players can register or rebuy up until the end of the third break tonight and will play for 12 levels or until the final table is reached, whichever happens first.
